The Role
To support the daily operations of the finance department, with a primary focus on maintaining an efficient Accounts Payable function. You will also assist with general bookkeeping, month-end reconciliations, and the preparation of financial reports as part of your professional development.
Key Responsibilities
Accounts Payable (Primary Focus)
Invoice Processing: Match, code, and input supplier invoices into the accounting system with high accuracy.
Statement Reconciliations: Regularly reconcile supplier statements to ensure all liabilities are recorded and resolve any discrepancies.
Payment Runs: Assist in preparing weekly or monthly BACS payment runs and issuing remittances to vendors.
Query Management: Act as the first point of contact for internal and external purchase-related queries.
Financial Reporting & General Accounting
Month-End Support: Assist with basic journal entries, including prepayments and accruals, under supervision.
Bank Reconciliations: Perform daily or weekly reconciliations of bank accounts to ensure ledger accuracy.
Reporting: Help compile data for, daily, weekly and monthly reporting
Audit Prep: Assist in collating files and evidence for year-end audits.
Administrative Support
Maintain organized digital and physical financial records.
Process employee expense claims and credit card reconciliations.
Person Specification
Experience: No prior accounting experience is required; full on-the-job training will be provided.
Education: Minimum of 5 GCSEs (Grades 9–4 / A*–C) including Maths and English.
AAT Commitment: Must be currently studying for or have a strong desire to start an AAT qualification (Level 2 or 3).
Skills
Strong numerical skills and a high level of attention to detail.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
Excellent communication skills for liaising with suppliers and colleagues.
