The Role
The European Head of Marketing will play a pivotal role in driving the Marketing function across the European business, ensuring strategic alignment with commercial objectives by delivering best-in-class category insights and customer-facing recommendations. Reporting directly to the European Commercial Director, this is a high-profile role that combines strategic thinking with commercial acumen to support growth across retail, foodservice, HMD and Manufacturing.
As European Head of Marketing, you will be responsible for understanding consumer behaviour, market trends, and customer strategies to create compelling insights that shape the innovation pipeline and commercial approach. You will lead and develop the European Marketing team, fostering a collaborative, high‑performance culture and ensuring the team is equipped to deliver against strategic priorities. Working cross‑functionally with the Commercial, R&D, Marketing, and Supply Chain teams, as well as directly with customers, you will influence decision‑making, strengthen capability across the function, and secure opportunities that align with our ambition to “elevate the everyday” for consumers.
Key Responsibilities
Provide strong, inspirational leadership to the European Marketing team, creating a clear vision, setting strategic priorities, and ensuring the team is empowered, motivated, and equipped to deliver with excellence.
Lead, manage, and develop the European Marketing team, ensuring effective resource allocation, building functional capabilities, and fostering a culture of high performance, collaboration, and accountability.
Define and implement marketing strategies in collaboration with the European Commercial Director, aligning with customer, category, country, and channel goals.
Interpretation and analysis of data, reviewing gaps, shelf space, trends, promotional activity, providing ongoing reports to inform decision making.
Lead the Marketing team in developing and delivering category insight across retail, HMD, Manufacturing, and foodservice channels, ensuring the team uses data, research, and market knowledge to uncover growth opportunities.
Monitor market trends, competitor activity, and consumer behaviour to inform category strategy and guide the team in proactively identifying shifts that impact performance.
Coach and support the team to translate complex insight into clear, actionable recommendations that drive innovation, enhance customer engagement, and strengthen commercial success.
Lead and guide the Marketing team in partnering with key customers, ensuring the delivery of tailored category reviews and presentations that position NWF as a trusted thought leader.
Support the Commercial team in securing new listings and defending existing business by providing robust, insight‑led arguments, while coaching the team to build confidence and capability in customer-facing interactions.
Present trend and category insights to customers in an engaging and professional manner and empower the team to do the same through clear direction, training, and ongoing development.
Lead the Marketing team in championing category management across the business, ensuring insights are embedded into commercial planning, brand development, and cross‑functional decision‑making.
Foster strong collaboration between your team and key functions, including Supply Chain and Finance, to ensure category recommendations are both commercially viable and operationally deliverable.
Guide and support the team in influencing internal stakeholders, ensuring insights are communicated effectively and drive alignment behind strategic priorities.
Person Specification
· Strong analytical skills, with proven experience using retail and consumer data sources (e.g kantar, Nielsen, IRI IGD).
· Commercially astute, with the ability to balance insight with strategic recommendations.
· Confident communicator and presenter, able to influence at all levels internally and externally.
· Passionate about food, consumer trends and innovation.
· Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
· Collaborative mindset with the ability to build strong relationships across teams and with customers.
· Proactive, curious and solutions-focused approach.
· Willingness to travel within the UK, EU and globally.
· Extensive marketing experience, preferably within an FMCG environment.
· A proven, inspiring leader with the ability to motivate, develop and empower a high performing team, creating a culture of accountability, collaboration and continuous improvement.
